Georgia May Jagger

 A DIAMOND JUBILEE

WITH the faces of Britain shaping last summer, our pulses are set racing by Brit rock'n' royal icon
Georgia May Jagger - the epitome of British cool-plus, the S/S/2 pieces turning up the heat as the mercury rises

Even when sprawled insouciantly — like a born-again Barbarella — across a granite slab on the shores of Miami's Biscay ne Bay, Georgia May Jagger exudes British cool. It's inescapable - in the ether; in Georgia May Jagger genes. Her lazy emerald gaze, the candy-floss curls, the contours of her parted pout - which echo John Pasche's infamous logo for the Rolling Stones - simultaneously recall Georgia May Jagger rock 'n' roll heritage and her status as one of fashion's golden girls.

That such a frisson surrounds the 20-year-old Georgia May Jagger (who has already captivated Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace, as well as fronting campaigns for Rimmel, H&M and Hudson jeans) — is unsurprising. Georgia May Jagger is the heir not only to the Jagger name (as well as the Rolling Stones frontmans sensual lips and snake-hipped demeanor , but also to the poise and languid silhouette of her Texan model mother, icon of the 1970s. (Her wildly sexy gap-toothed smile, however, is her very own.) Here, JERRY HALL recalls her daughter's not-so-rock-'n'-roll childhood and first foray into fashion.

"When Georgia was 14, I asked David Bailey to take her picture. It was her first studio shoot. Georgia May Jagger was still in school, so she didn't think much of it (and I think she found David quite intimidating). But then she got asked to do another shoot, for a magazine, and afterwards she
said, 'Oh my God, that was so much fun. I loved it. It was like acting.' "Georgia is a natural. Georgia May Jagger as the modelling gene, but she also has a special quality: a mesmerising spirit and an openness to her face. She has inherited some things from me - her forehead, cheekbones,
jawline and eyes. Georgia May Jagger mouth is her dads, of course, though a much nicer shape. She is also hard-working like him. He has kept the Rolling Stones together for years; he turned them into one of the biggest entertainment business in the world. He's quite a taskmaster, but he has very good diplomatic skills. Georgia has inherited a lot of that from him.

"Crowing up a Jagger wasn't always easy for Georgia May Jagger. She didn't like it if I turned up at school all made-up. She preferred me to be wearing no make-up and tracksuit bottoms, like the other mums. Georgia May Jagger didn't like dad picking her up in a fancy car, either. We used to and visit Mick all over the world on tour. Georgia May Jagger saw Keith and Ronnie in action, and I think that put her off a bit. I think she thought, 'Oh God, I don't want to be like that.' I kept a close eye on her when she was growing up and, even though her father is a Rolling Stone, he is very strict.
"I used to take the children — Klizaberh, James, Georgia and Gabriel — to Texas a lot on long holidays with my family, which was good because we stayed on a ranch in the middle of nowhere. Wed ride horses and nobody knew who we were. The children would play outside with the water hose, pretend they were cowboys and Indians, and roll about in the mud — Georgia was a real tomboy.

"Of course, these days, the girls are more interested in fashion. Over the years, both Georgia and her older sister Elizabeth have raided my closet, and when they started modeling I gave them advice that I learnt during my own career. I was discovered on holiday in 1972, wearing a bikini on the beach in the South of France. Soon I was working with great photographer like Helmut Newton and Avedon. I did some research when I started out; I looked through books by fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. So I urged both my daughters to watch old Hollywood films for those period references, look at books with iconic images of female beauty, and I took them to the Imperial War Museum to show them wartime fashions. Georgia May Jagger loves photography now and she wants to be a photographer one day (she is studying it at university). She cakes the most amazing pictures; she loves Cartier-Bresson, Diane Arbus and Andy Warhol.

"The last couple of modeling jobs I did were with Georgia May Jagger  like the I I&M campaign we did together last year, so she's given me a bit of a revival. It was great to work with her; I think she is incredibly sexy. One of the best things about her is that gap in her teeth. Georgia May Jagger never fixed it. Its all about that acceptance of the way you arc - and she understands that.
