Katherine Heigl arrives for lunch at L.A.'s Chateau Marmont hotel bubbling with excitement. "I just worked out," she says, as if it were a major accomplishment. Which, evidently, it is—she's blown off sessions with her trainer the past four days in a row. "I don't have a lot of discipline," the 29-year-old actress admits. "If I wasn't in this industry, I wouldn't work out. But I have hips and a butt and everything that goes along with that, including cellulite! So I do the best I can."

A confession like (hat isn't what you'd expect to hear from one of Hollywood's hottest actresses, but it's precisely the kind of no-ho Ids-barred statement Katherine Heigl (or Katie, as friends call her) is prone to make... and one of the many reasons she's Cosmo's Fun Fearless Femaleof the Year. "People who know me well know that I have an opinion about pretty much everything" Katherine Heigl says.

Being outspoken seems to become Katherine, who's on a roll both professionally and personally. There's her recent Emmy win for her portrayal of sensitive doc Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy and the hilarious and daring performance Katherine Heigl, um, delivered in last summer's blockbuster flick Knocked Up. Then there's the striking make under Katherine Heigl pulled off for her latest film, January's charming romantic comedy 27 Dresses. She cut off several inches of her glamorous blond hair and ed it mousy brown to play plain Jane, a woman who's always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

In 27 Dresses, Katherine Heigl flaunts some scary frocks. Not that Katherine would know whatthat's life: As Cosmo went to press, she was about to walk down the aisle with rocker Josh Kelley.Everything in Katherine's life appears to be lining up perfectly She has not only achieved the success she's dreamed about since she started acting at age 9, but she's done it on her own terms. "I pride myself on being kind," she says. "But that's not to say there aren't moments when I'm a diva. Everybody has bad moments." Still, she says, "there are people in my life who keep me grounded, so I couldn't behave that badly, even if I wanted to."

But she's not afraid to call other people out on their bad behavior. Last year, after costar Isaiah Washington allegedly used an offensive word (faggot) to refer to T.B. Knight, who plays George on Greys, Katherine Heigl spoke up against Isaiah at the Golden Globes. Her fierce defense of T.B. made headlines. "You can't, give me too much credit for being brave," she says now. "I was just a girl who had had a couple of drinks and was angry and got mouthy."

Though Katherine Heigl doesn't regret voicing her opinion, she concedes that it was risky. "I really did think it would fuck me," she says. "As I was opening my mouth, I kept thinking. Shut up. But it's an issue that I felt really passionately about."

No wonder she calls winning the Emmy in September "a good end to a long year" Of course, the ultimate end to 2007 is the wedding she's been planning. It's an event she describes as a "swanky Christmas party" says Katherine, "It's an important day to celebrate your commitment."Katherine fell hard and fast for Josh in 2005, when she starred in one of his music videos. "Josh came into my life, and I realized. Oh my God, you're someone I can really trust and go to when things are hard," she says. "To have that in a partner is huge."Amazing sexual chemistry doesn'thurt either. "It's always been pretty phenomenal, but I think our sex life is 10 times better than it was," Katherine Heigl gushes. "We understand each other better It's just a whole different ballgame. You feel sheltered in the moment, whether you're being wild and crazy and you're doing your striptease... or it's just more mellow."

Her fans will be happy to hear that Katherine Heigl believes wifedom and a full-throttle career can go hand in hand. In addition to her role on Grey's, she's now the face of Nautica's fragrance My Voyage. "All these doors are opening," she says, adding that she's trying to savor the opportunities.

"My mother says she thinks I wouldn't have appreciated [success] the same way if it had come faster or more easily. Now it's a much bigger reward," says Katherine Heigl.
