Fashion Week: Spring 2013 RTW Collections

Well dolls, it's that time again.  Time to wish you a "Happy Fashion Week"!  Now is the time to get the scoop on what the fashion trends will be for Spring.  Sure, we've barely begun to feel the fall chill and haven't even taken our jackets and boots out of storage, but these styles for Spring energize us and give us something to look forward to while we suffer through the cold of Winter.  So, what are the trends?  Well, it looks like we're seeing a great deal of harness type styles that look a little bit bondage-like, but are softened up with loose, flowy fabrics!  We're also seeing lots of feminine, vintage type patterns like brocade in soft colors and metallics, pretty belts and bows, and lace is still very popular for Spring 2013.  Anyway, here are a handful of our favorite collections so far in no particular order:

Badgley Mischka

Marc Jacobs

BCBG

Carmen Marc Valvo

Lela Rose

Vera Wang

Jason Wu

Fashion Week: Fall/Winter 2012 Wrap Up

So many designers, so little time. It's hard to choose just a few favorites to share with you when there are so many fantastic designers on the schedule.  We had a hard time narrowing it down but we've finally made our last pics for our fashion week favorites. Without further ado, here's our final post on the Fall 2012 RTW Collections from the Mercedes Benz Fashion week in NYC.

Fashion Week: Fall/Winter 2012 Continued

Fashion week came to an end yesterday, but we've still got a lot more of our favorites to show you.  Here's part two of our fashion week favorites. We're definitely seeing a lot of glam and certainly a good amount of Tangerine Tango. Stay tuned for more on Monday!  Have a great weekend, dolls.

New York Fashion Week: Fall/Winter 2012

Ok, dolls, it's that time again!  Fashion Week in NYC kicked off last Thursday and we've been catching up with some of our favorites over at www.elle.com.  Here's a few highlights to provide you with some excitement and to prepare you for what's in store for this Fall and Winter fashion season.  From what we can tell, it looks like color blocking and leather will still be pretty big so you may want to start hitting those sale racks now. Check back Friday for more from some of our other favorite designers!

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: J. Mendel

We'll wrap up our fashion week highlights with J. Mendel and his lovely vertical color block pieces. Some of us avoid stripes like the plague for fear they will make us look fat. While horizontal stripes have that effect, vertical stripes are elongating and can actually make you appear taller and slimmer.  J. Mendel's collection of vertically color blocked pieces and feminine, fluttery dresses with surprise pops of contrasting colors.  Overall it was modern, sophisticated, and extremely flattering.

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Tory Burch

We could have used color day to showcase the colorful collection by Oscar de la Renta, but we're betting that our average reader is probably more in tune to a collection that can be worn in more of an everyday kind of capacity, like that of Tory Burch. This collection features a little bit for everyone with bright colors (Why, hello there, yellow!), polka dots and ruffles, tiers of fringe, and fun studs and sequins.  Maybe it's a love for Gatsby or maybe it's the popularity of HBO's Boardwalk Empire, but our favorite flirty and sexy 1920's flapper style made its way into the Tory Burch collection too.  Take a look:

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Charlotte Ronson

Charlotte Ronson's collections are always young and fresh and her Spring 2012 collection certainly lived up to our expectations.  We love the country meets city look and various textures and flirty, feminine colors and sheer fabrics! Charlotte does dresses very well and this collection is light, breezy, and definitely wearable.  Plus, we're not sure if you're aware, but Charlotte Ronson's "I Heart Ronson" Collection is available at JCPenny and features some really great designer apparel at incredibly affordable prices.  We hope to see some of these frocks there this Spring!

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Ralph Lauren

We love Ralph Lauren's spring collection, possibly because it's reminiscent of The Great Gatsby (and you know we love our Gatsby). We love the soft, pale pastels and the fluttering dresses, which create such beautiful and romantic look. There were way too many pieces to choose from, so instead we focused on our favorite part of the collection: the evening dress. We wish we had some sparkly event to go to where we could wear these gorgeous, beaded, floor length dresses without looking ridiculous or over-the-top. This may be one of our favorite evening wear collections.

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Bill Blass

So we're not going to lie, we had no idea who Bill Blass was until we started blogging about Fashion Week. But now that we found him, we love him! His collection has strong, vibrant colors and is really ready-to-wear.  The collection had a strong nautical theme without being too gimmicky (only a few anchors and stripes overall), and we really loved the simple prints. Like Victoria Beckham, the collection had a very preppy and athletic feel that we could see rocking in real life.

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week - Nicole Miller

Bright, bold, and youthful are the words we would use to describe Nicole Miller's Spring 2012 Ready to Wear collection.  A little bit 80's, a little bit rock and roll - this collection is sporty, fun, exciting.  We love the retro neon colors paired with the dark black leather and fun checkerboard print. It all kind of reminds us of a more modern and wearable version of what we used to see on The Misfits from Jem and the Holograms. It's truly outrageous.

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week: Victoria Beckham

No longer known as Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham has created an empire. She is one of the few designers who creates classic looks that people will actually wear. off the runway without looking like they're trying too hard. This season her collection varied from mod to preppy chic, with slim fitting dresses to sexy-yet-boxy military style coats. While we wish the color palette was a bit more diversified, we love the monochrome look and expect to see the high halter neck dresses on all the celebrities this season.

Spring 2012 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week - Tadashi Shoji

Fashion week continues in New York this week. We look forward to this time of year to see what we'll have to look forward to for spring (and what we'll want to avoid!). The week kicked off on Thursday last week with some great shows and some really lovely pieces for Spring 2012. One designer we're always interested in is Tadashi Shoji.  Tadashi's Spring 2012 line is inspired by the beauty of the tulip and was bright, flirty, and perfectly lady-like.

New York Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2011 Collections - The Final Installation

The lights have been taken down, platforms and runways disassembled, and confetti cleared as the Mercedes-Benz fashion week in NYC has come to a close.  Although the Fall weather is upon us, we'll anxiously await the warm weather while we sit comfortable in our leggings and oversized sweaters.  Though there are many months to come before we can wear those cute little sheath dresses, it's always nice to get a sneak peak at what's in store for us next season.  So, before we all go into hibernation, let's get on with it and show you the remainder of some of the most wearable pieces that we are most excited about for the Spring.

Ann Sui's collection reminds us on the great plains and we just love the patterns, and embroidery. The colors, fabrics, and details had a very western, pioneer feel to them and the pieces, while inspired by the folksy hippie styles of the 1970's, looked modern and romantic.

Soft chiffon and sweet eyelet fabrics made Bebe's collection ultra feminine and light.  Again following the 1970's trends seen all over the runways this season, Bebe paired their garments with fold over booties and ultra sexy platform sandals for a modern flair.

Calvin Klein

Minimalist at it's best, that is what we could say about the Calvin Klein show.  Although most of the pieces were black and white, and some of the garments looked a little shapeless, there were certainly pieces that payed homage to Klein's way of looking effortlessly chic and polished.

Isaac Mizrahi

Isaac Mizrahi became known to us for his designs sold in Target stores and ever since then he's been a favorite.  Although we weren't really digging the shear shoulders with the stiff white collars, these pieces are beautiful and elegant, perfect for any spring special event!

How on earth did we leave out Marc Jacobs?!?  Always fans of just about anything Marc Jacobs, his collection for Spring/Summer 2011 did not disappoint!  The styles were great and the color palette was bright and refreshing with brilliant shades of red-orange, yellow, and blue.

Spring was in the air at the Michael Kors show, with gorgeous shades of green, beige, and tan. But, not only were the colors earth inspired, so were the fabrics!   Using eco friendly fabrics, Michael Kors put together a collection that was casual and relaxing, while still looking polished and luxurious.

Who says our wardrobe can't have a little eccentric flair?  We think the collection by Milly is professional but still very sexy and playful and definitely ready-to-wear!  We love the pencil skirts, dresses, bold but tasteful graphics, and daring color contrasts!

Vibrant tangerine and lush raspberry stood out the Nanette Lepore runway. Overall, this collection was so lovable and versatile, with pieces that could easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and vintage style swimsuits  that you'll be sure we'll have our eyes on once they hit the stores!

Oscar de la Renta

Classy, upscale, and sophisticated can describe the Spring/Summer 2011 Collection presented by fashion great Oscar de la Renta. First-lady-worthy fashions like tailored suits, fitted dresses, and fantastic cardigans were some or our favorites, and then of course, there were the gowns, like the white one shown above, that just blew us away!

The best way we could think to sum up the Ralph Lauren Collection is: Wild Wild West meets The Great Gatsby meets The Hills.  Western fringe, leather, and belt buckles were paired up with lacey, embroidered tops and dresses, and then topped off with a metallic platform heel or handbag to create a truly modern looks.

Definitely one of our favorites of the week, Tory Burch's Spring/Summer collection felt truly youthful and "springy".  Cardigans, cropped pants, skirts, & light jackets, all in beautifully bright spring colors, lined the runway and were a nice break from the usual sea of whites, pale pinks, and neutrals.  We'd be thrilled for these items to walk right off the runway and into our closets.

XOXO,
Jen & Saira
