BALENCIAGA FASHION WEEK
In Europe it was fashion musical chairs this season. Nicolas Ghesquiere's collection forBalenciaga was all about skin, from midriff tops to skirts slit up to the hip bone. Fashion Weeks later he left, and Alexander Wang was named creative director. Can't wait to see what a New
Yorker does with the label!
SAINT LAURENT FASHION WEEK
The hot ticket was Hedi Slimanes Fashion Week debut for the brand. After designing Dior Homme, he'd taken a detour into photography. (I love his book Rock Diary.) Everyone was curious! His first move? Changing the name from YSL back to Saint Laurent. Made perfect sense once wesaw his clothes: moody, gothic pieces that nodded to seventies Saint Laurent.
DIOR FASHION WEEK
When Raf Simons got the big job at Dior last spring (after leaving Jil Sander), editors werethrilled. It just felt like a fit, and his spring fashion collection at fashion week—full of modern yet very Dior looks- proved us right. And the music wowed: Schubert into techno.
JIL SANDEP FASHION WEEK
It was Jil Sandep big return to the label she'd left in 2004. Sander's strong, clean aesthetic hasn'tfaltered over the years—now with much more color! Bravo to a well-deserved homecoming.
