Eco Chic Wedding

We love posting about green and eco-friendly ideas. There really is something to be said about feeling when doing good, and the most important day to feel good is your wedding day! But let's be real -- sometimes echo chic can also be a little bit shabby chic. And while we absolutely love that style, it's not for every bride. So we started thinking hard about stylish ways to make your wedding eco-friendly. There are basic ways to make your wedding green, such as reducing your carbon footprint by having your ceremony and reception at the same venue, providing shuttle services to reduce car emissions, using cloth napkins, using organic materials in lieu of paper confetti, and so on. In addition to these basic suggestions, here are some ideas for recycled invitations, favors, centerpieces, and more!

Color Day: Prep School Perfection

Happy Wednesday, dolls! We recently noticed the navy and green combination popping up in a number of things in Kate Spade's collections (bracelets, shoes, earrings, etc!) and just fell in love with it. But, admittedly, when we first decided to make a color board with these colors we immediately thought of Blair Waldorf in her bold golden yellow headband and Constance school uniform. We also thought of the University of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish, but the Queen B and her band of minions seemed slightly more in tune with the look we would like this board to inspire.  As some schools have already begun for Fall in the Northeast, it seems like the appropriate time to study a combination of colors that really evoke a scholarly feel.  Here are some ways to incorporate academia in your decor for a preppy look that's sure to earn you an A+ for style!

Color Day: Pink, Purple, and Green

We finally figured out our technical difficulties and by figured out we actually mean that we just happened to get lucky and actually have no idea what really fixed the problem.  But, anyway, here is the inspiration board we promised this morning.  Cheerful fuchsia is paired with cool purple and a bright, apple green for a color combo that is unusual, yet striking.  According to TheKnot, this is one of the hottest new combinations for the year!

The Versatile Look Book: The Little Green Dress

We love how fashion mags like to show you how to take one item of clothing and either dress it up or dress it down. The downside is that we can never afford the pieces that they share, and a lot of times the looks shown aren't very practical for the everyday girl.  So we decided to do do a little fashion play of our own by taking a simple, yet structural dress from Top Shop and showing how you can use basic pieces from your wardrobe and transition from work to play. Our goal is for you to be able to change a few, simple aspects of your look (i.e. hair, shoes, a piece of jewelry) so that you can leave work and party the night away without having to pack a whole other wardrobe.

It's Easy Being Green

Happy (almost) St. Patrick's Day dolls! Get our your four leaf clovers, lucky charms and, most importantly, get ready to deck yourself out in your favorite shade of green this Saturday. While we're both partial to wearing a bright and vibrant kelly green, a subtle mint green should do the trick and keep you from getting heckled (or pinched!) during the day's festivities.  And lucky for you, green is a big color this Spring, so you'll be sure to get a lot of wear out of your selection. Here is some inspiration that will have your friends going green with envy!

Color Day: Kelly and Slate

Hope you all had a nice labor day! We sure enjoyed the time to relax, but now we're back for some special fall posts and even more real weddings and engagements. So, for today, here's a great color combo for fall or winter.  Slate gray is the new chocolate brown and, while we love chocolate brown, we love the updated, modern look of the cool gray even more. Here we have it paired with vibrant kelly green for a sophisticated feel. Be sure to tune in next week when we pair this slate gray shade with orange and yellow for a look that's just a bit more playful!

Color Day: Coral and Mint

Sorry for the delay, dolls! Sometimes technology doesn't always work as planned, but alas, here is today's color day post.  Warm, electrifying coral and cool, minty green create a palette that is both relaxing and energizing - giving off some beachy, tropical, summertime vibes. Perfectly suitable for the bride who likes to dance and the groom who fancies a little quality time with his hammock.

Color Day: Passion for Pastels

This time of year is one that inspires so many different color combinations.  For many people, springtime inspires us to decorate and dress in pale, soft colors like green, pink, blue, or yellow.  Or, if you'd like, you can combine them all together for a pastel palette suitable enough for the easter bunny himself. While these colors have come to represent Easter, we're not saying you need to go full on bunny and rainbow colored crazy.  Just adding some pretty vintage looking pastels and an egg/bird decorative item here and there can be quite cheerful and truly egg-cellent.

Color Day: Erin go Bragh

Roughly translated as "Ireland Forever", the phrase "Erin go Bragh" is a common phrase used to express allegiance to Ireland.  Saira is definitely not Irish and Jen is not quite sure what she is, but lucky for us, in the U.S. you don't need to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. St. Patty's Day is known for many things from leprechauns and rainbows to drinking Guinness and eating cabbage.  But, for most of us it is simply associated with the color green and the lush rolling hills of the "Emerald Isle:". Planning a springtime wedding or event?  Embrace the luck of the Irish with this inspiration board featuring shades of green and joyful clovers.

Color Day Themes: New Orleans Love

So, we're a little late, but we figured a Mardi Gras theme would be appropriate for this week's color day.  The festivities may have ended with the start of the Lenten season today, but that doesn't meant that you can't incorporate a similar theme into your party or event any time this year.  Carnival or Mardi Gras themes are festive and fun so break out the beads, put on your mask, crank up that jazz and bring and little of "The Big Easy" to your event.

Color Day: Green, Black, and White

We decided we were in need of a little spring preview, so, here we have a grassy green with the simple and classic black and white.  This color board could be used for a winter or spring wedding that is both traditional and timeless but with a little bit of modern flair.  Black and white says traditional elegance but bold green says fun and fresh, the perfect mix for a modern couple.

We had a few more images picked out for this one but our computer is giving us some trouble so for more green and black love, check out this board on Fine Stationary's photostream.  Enjoy and know there are bright, fun, and cheerful colors to look forward to this Spring!

Color Day: Forest Green and Gold

Today's color day is inspired in part by Jen's Christmas tree, but really just the holiday season in general. Pine trees are majestic enough to begin with, but add twinkling white lights, delicate gold garland, and glittering ornaments and they transform into fabulously beautiful focal points for any room.  Forest green and gold are rich, warm, and regal colors not just for making a gorgeous Christmas Tree, but also for creating a luxe look for any holiday decor, dinner party, or winter wedding.

Holiday Style: Red and Green Are the New Black

Celebrate the first full week of December by dressing yourself in the colors of the season -- red and green of course! These two colors can pretty much only be worn together during the month of December so be sure to get your fill of this combo before the Christmas season passes us by!  While we're not huge fans of dressing up for holidays (i.e. wearing red on Valentine's day), adding some select red or green pieces into your wardrobe is definitely the easiest way to incorporate a little holiday spirit and get you feeling festive. Plus we love coordinating outfits and cohesive themes so wearing one of these shades is a great way to compliment all the holiday decor!

Nothing quite says Christmas like a bright red, warm and cozy sweater dress.  This one, from Victoria's Secret, is modest enough for your family party but also looks very sexy with the thin black belt.  Pair this with some black leggings and cute flats and you'll be ready to deck the halls in no time!

Look picture perfect in front of the tree this Christmas in this beautiful red and green (ish) print dress from Urban Outfitters. This dress is reminiscent of the dress you wore with the velvet bow in your hair to your great Aunt Mildred's house on Christmas Eve... but in a good way! Add some loose curls, maybe a headband, and definitely some black tights, and you're on your way to looking like your very own Christmas card.

You can be Santa's sexy little helper in these ruffled peep toe pumps.  Add them to any basic black dress to jazz up your outfit, and get ready to sashay onto the dance floor... or kitchen floor, same difference.

This green satin dress from J. Crew is definitely at the top of our winter wish list, and just may be our dream dress for the holiday season. The rich jewel hemline adds just the right amount of sparkle to this simple satin dress, making it bright and festive, without being over the top. While it's a bit pricier than the picks we tend to share on our blog (we are pretty modest girls, after all), we just loved it so much that we had to share.

Feeling the holiday spirit, but not the satin or frills? Then try on this checked embroidered skirt from Mod Cloth. While the skirt is decorated with horses, not reindeer, we think this skirt would be perfect for Christmas eve with a cute little cardigan and black tights.

Brighten up your gray December morning with this warm, green, cowl neck sweater from Macy's.  The extra long sleeves and layered neckline is exactly what the doctor ordered this winter.  It would look great with a pair of straight leg black dress pants and a chunky bracelet or ring and don't forget the red lipstick to really pull the look together! Also, you can recycle this sweater for St. Patrick's Day, so everyone wins!

Dressing up in a red satin dress is not for everyone, but dressing up with a red satin clutch is totally doable. Add on some glamor this holiday season with this red, satin rosette clutch available at Macy's. Dress up a beaded black or silver dress, and you'll be set for any holiday party.

For a more subtle way to show your holiday spirit, try out this silk, jeweled bracelet from Anthropologie. It's simple, elegant, and our favorite shade of green!

Stand out from the crowd in this red satin halter top by Ann Taylor. For a casual look, wear it belted with black pants (shown above) or dress it up with a pencil skirt for a chic and polished look. It already has some shimmer, so opt for minimal jewelry, such as small stud earrings or a sparkly bracelet.

Or, looking for a more laid back, casual look?  Show your Christmas spirit while being extra cozy in these fun green leggings!  Paired with a simple cream top and flats or boots, these cheerful leggings can be a really great way to wear holiday colors and ensure you have plenty of room for all those Christmas cookies!

Remember to comment on today's post to be eligible to win a prize in the Paper Doll Romance 12 Days of Christmas!  We picked up some really great items this weekend that we're so excited to give away!  Winners will start being announced once a day starting December 12th.  Best of luck!

'tis the season to be jolly!

Color Day: Shades of Autumn

Here is another great color combo for fall!  We know that incorporating a whole range of colors can be tempting, particularly for the fall season, and who are we to stop you?!  What we will do is show you how to combine multiple fall colors in a way that is tasteful and sophisticated and not reminiscent of a hand print turkey.  So, to pick a few colors we went with brown, green, orange and yellow.   You could easily add more splashes of burgundy to this palette, if you so choose, but we like to keep things a little simpler.  Plus, focusing on just these four lends to an almost vintage, 1970's feel that we are really digging.

Color Day: Green, Bronze, and Silver

Earthy colors like yellow, orange, burgundy, brown, and green are typically what comes to mind when you think of Fall colors. But, your Fall wedding doesn't have to be typical.  Choosing all of those colors together can tend to look tacky and juvenile and you certainly don't want your space to feel like you are swimming in a Crayola box. So, we suggest a more sophisticated way to incorporate Fall colors into your space.  For an elegant look, choose an accent color or two and pair it with neutrals or metallics.  Here we've taken a beautiful shade of green and paired with a warm metallic bronze and cool silver, lending to the overall feeling of calm and serenity. If you choose your colors carefully you'll find your space to be inspiring, not overwhelming.

Rubies, Sapphires, and Emeralds, oh my! Jewel tones have a unique ability to add a sense of luxury and passion to any space, wardrobe, etc. Can't decide which to use?  Use them all! These regal shades flow together and compliment each other so nicely to create a sexy, sultry, naturally glamorous atmosphere. We think this rich and luxurious looking ensemble, inspired by your favorite gemstones, is fit for a queen and certainly for any Fall wedding or event.

Color Day: Spices of India

Namaste!  Let's continue this week's food theme with a pallet inspired by some of our favorite cuisine. Tikka Masala, Palak Paneer, Curry, Tandoori anything.. we just can't get enough ethnic foods and Indian is one of our favorites! With it's rich red, deep gold, & earthy green spices, Indian food is by far the most colorful and vibrant of them all!  We love the way these savory hues play off each other and work together to create a color scheme that invokes comfort, warmth, & passion.  This is one delectable color inspiration that we're sure will add a little spice to your home, event, or Fall wardrobe.

Color Day: Lime and Tangerine

Welcome back, dolls!  We know you missed us yesterday, but here we are with our usual  Color Day post.

Oh, the hues of citrus fruits that give us such an energizing lift!  We can't help but be drawn to exciting, refreshing shades like those of tangerine and lime and so here is an inspiration board that sets a lively and fun tone for any event.  We also think these hues would be great to use to decorate your outdoor space for all those fabulous barbeques you'll be having.
