Color Day: Prep School Perfection

Happy Wednesday, dolls! We recently noticed the navy and green combination popping up in a number of things in Kate Spade's collections (bracelets, shoes, earrings, etc!) and just fell in love with it. But, admittedly, when we first decided to make a color board with these colors we immediately thought of Blair Waldorf in her bold golden yellow headband and Constance school uniform. We also thought of the University of Notre Dame's Fighting Irish, but the Queen B and her band of minions seemed slightly more in tune with the look we would like this board to inspire.  As some schools have already begun for Fall in the Northeast, it seems like the appropriate time to study a combination of colors that really evoke a scholarly feel.  Here are some ways to incorporate academia in your decor for a preppy look that's sure to earn you an A+ for style!

Color Day: Peach, Olive, and Navy

Looking for the perfect laid back color palette?  We love the combination of peach, navy, and olive!  It's charming and rustic, perfect for your laid back barn or garden wedding. Navy and peach tend to remind us of a preppy nautical theme but when you throw in the moss or olive green accents, it changes the look completely to give it a natural and vintage foresty feel!

Color Day: Navy and Orange

Searching for a Thanksgiving centerpiece today (among the glitzy baubles, snowmen, and reindeer) was like finding a needle in a haystack.  But, it certainly helped us realize two things.  First, don't wait until two days before Thanksgiving to buy a centerpiece (although it was on clearance!!) and second, we probably should start posting some winter things because Christmas will be here before we know it.   So, for the last fall inspired board we have warm, bright orange paired with dark, cool navy.  This look can actually work for fall nights or summer days as it can be warmed up for fall with soft candlelight for a cozy and romantic look or cooled down for summer with Khakis for that yacht club preppy feel.  Maybe you're going for something modern and unexpected or maybe your just crazy for the Mets; either way this color combo is sure to be a home run!

Real Wedding: Freya and Matt (Part 1 of 2)

We love it when our readers send us photos of their weddings to feature on our blog.  We love it even more when that reader is a friend of ours and we can make her feel extra special by showing off her gorgeous wedding to all of you! Freya, our friend and PDR enthusiast, met Matt over 10 years ago at a house party and she says it was truly love at first sight. In fact, she recalls announcing to her friends that she was certain he would be the one she married.  Although they didn't start dating right away, a mutual passion for music, travel, and food helped them to become fast friends and in 2007, six years later, they began dating.  Three years after that they got engaged and started planning their big day, which we are lucky to be able to share with you today! These two make a great couple and their June wedding had a lot of lovely details that helped their fun loving personalities shine through. Here's a look at some of our favorites from Freya and Matt's wedding (taken by the talented folks over at RHM Photography):

There were just so many charming portrait shots and fun reception pics that we decided we couldn't squeeze it all into one post. So, we hope you enjoyed this little preview but be sure to check back Friday for Part 2 for more Freya and Matt and for some of the details like the dress, venue, etc.

Color Day: Teal and Navy

Modern or timeless? Formal or fun? Make waves with a color inspiration that gives you the best of both worlds.  Ocean inspired hues go a long way when yacht-club-classic navy is paired with youthful teal and crisp white, creating a look that is refreshing and semi-nautical, without going overboard.

Color Day: Magenta/Fuchsia and Navy

Nautical, masculine navy meets frilly, feminine magenta in this hot color combination for summer. Inspired by nature's fruits, raspberries and blueberries, this palette is sweet and delightful.  We love the way these colors blend and how the elegance of the navy is perfectly offset by the playful magenta for an absolutely harmonious balance.  Be sure to accent this mixed berry combo with a cool metallic silver, and if you are going for a combination like this one, basic white should act as your blank canvas to make these two colors really pop!

Color Day: Nautical Navy and Yellow

Ahoy, sailor! While we already gave you a little taste of a nautical theme with our wardrobe post we haven't yet featured it as a color inspiration.  Today we feature two colors that are very prominent in the sailing world!  Often when you think nautical you think blue and white, but what you'll also notice is a lot of times these colors will be accented with a rich gold. Blue and yellow (gold/mustard/whatever you want to call it) are the perfect colors for your nautical themed project as one color anchors your palette as a neutral, while the other is your fun color that you can add in small doses to liven things up.
